I am a bit late to the party but in the past couple of days I have become fascinated with the electoral battle that has been going on in the Islamic Republic. The leading challenger candidate is using Obama-style campaign rhetoric “hope” and “change” to rally young people and women to the polls. The problem with following the election is my own personal lack of knowledge about the operations and function of the Iranian government, but luckily the good folks at The Guardian newspaper in the UK have come up with a great interactive primer (found via NY Times). It is going to be a very interesting 24 hours for the Iranian people, and outcome of the election could shift the Middle East, again!
